In der Tat ist dies eher Musik zum konzentrierten Zuhören und nicht zum Mitwippen oder gar Headbangen. Es geht vielmehr um präzise Musikalität, kristallklare Einwürfe und eine gewisse sanfte Nachdenklichkeit, aber natürlich auch um Klangexploration und -gestaltung. So entstehen tektonische Soundwelten, die sich gegenseitig bedrängen. Bei ihren Konzerten hat man manchmal das Gefühl, in einem Maschinenraum zu stehen, in dessen Zentrum ein Vogelhaus mit exotischen Vögeln steht. Butcher, Corsano und Stoffner brauchen keine übermäßige Lautstärke oder Soli, die einen zu stehenden Ovationen verleiten, um ihre Botschaft zu vermitteln. Ihre Botschaft ist in eleganten Kleinbuchstaben und selten verwendeten akustischen Schriftarten verfasst.

CHRIS CORSANO has been active at the intersections of collective improvisation, free jazz, avant-rock, and noise music since the late 1990’s. Corsano is one of the greatest drummers working today, developing a percussive language of extraordinary amplitude and infinite resources. His collaborations stretch from free jazz greats (Joe McPhee, Evan Parker, Paul Flaherty & more) to noise mavens (Jandek, Bill Nace, C Spencer Yeh etc) and pop superstars (Björk). Capable of generating narrative out of permanent ecstasy, Corsano never ceases to be profoundly affirmative and imposing of his language, and being an absolute and charismatic virtuoso, he simultaneously is one of the most noble and generous improvisers of the few last decades.

JOHN BUTCHER is a saxophonist of rare grace and power, who has expanded the vocabulary of the saxophone far beyond the conventions of jazz and other musics, to encompass a staggering range of harmonics, multiphonics, overtones, percussive sounds, and electronic feedback. But his playing is far more than merely an array of special effects: it’s characterised by an intensity that propels it into strange new places that are both incredibly beautiful and deeply exhilarating.  Since the early 80s he has collaborated with hundreds of artists – including Derek Bailey, Rhodri Davies, Andy Moor, Phil Minton, Christian Marclay, Eddie Prévost, Magda Mayas, Spontaneous Music Ensemble, Sophie Agnel, Gino Robair, Mark Sanders, John Tilbury, Okkyung Lee, John Edwards, Chris Corsano, Polwechsel and Steve Beresford.
