“A saxophonist who embodies and transcends tradition” (The New York Times), James Brandon Lewis has become, in just over a decade, one of the most celebrated young artists in jazz — an artist who has carved a niche for his singular mixture of gospel, blues, and R&B with the incendiary saxophone explorations of John Coltrane, Albert Ayler, and Sonny Rollins. His performance coincides with the release of his ANTI Records recording, Eye and I. His Live Trio features electric bassist Josh Werner and drummer Chad Taylor.

James Brandon Lewis (geb. 1983) ist ein von der Kritik gefeierter Komponist, Saxophonist und Schriftsteller. Er hat Auszeichnungen von NPR, der ASCAP Foundation und der Robert Rauschenberg Foundation erhalten. Die New York Times bezeichnete ihn als „einen Saxophonisten, der die Tradition verkörpert und transzendiert“, und als vielversprechendes junges Talent, das den Ältesten der Jazzlegende Sonny Rollins zugehört hat. „Der Saxophonist hat eine tiefe, vom Gospel geprägte Spiritualität mit der Unbekümmertheit des Free-Jazz und einer harten Funk-meets-Hip-Hop-Untermalung in Einklang gebracht“ heißt es im Rolling Stone Magazine. Er hat mehrere von der Kritik gefeierte Alben veröffentlicht und tourt international als Leiter verschiedener Ensembles. Er ist Mitglied und Mitbegründer des mit dem American Book Award ausgezeichneten Ensembles Heroes Are Gang Leaders. James wurde von der internationalen Kritikerumfrage des Magazins Downbeat 2020 zum Rising Star Tenor Saxophonist gewählt.
